FARMINGTON — RSU 9 directors voted unanimously Tuesday to approve Superintendent Tom Ward’s nomination of Keith Acedo of California as principal of the G.D. Cushing and Academy Hill schools in Wilton.

The board also approved its Contract Resolution Committee’s recommendation of the salary and benefit package. Acedo was given a two-year contract, Ward said after the meeting. His salary is $73,404 plus benefits.

Prior to the approval, the board met in executive session to talk to Acedo. He and his wife are looking for a house in the area, Ward said.

Acedo is principal at Montara Elementary School in Barstow, Calif., according to his resume. He has been principal there since 2006.

His professional career also includes serving as assistant principal at Barstow Intermediate School and co-principal at Kennedy Middle School, both in Barstow.

He has 20-plus years working as a team member and leader, his resume states. He has also served as an elementary school teacher, high school baseball coach, and military police patrolman and investigator.

There were eight applicants for the position and four were interviewed. Acedo has a master’s degree in administration from Chapman University in California.

He succeeds Darlene Paine, who is now principal at Cape Cod Hill School in New Sharon. She replaced Cheryl Pike, who retired at the end of this past school year.
