Community Garden Party Saturday
BRIDGTON — A Community Garden Party will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Bridgton Community Center.
Dinner will be served, including grilled chicken and sausage, summer vegetables, teas, homemade cakes, breads and rhubarb compote.
There will be acoustic music, kids’ activities, raffle baskets and opportunities for all to learn more about the collaborative garden, which last year harvested more than 1,000 pounds of food for people in need.
Buttons are available for $5 at the event or by calling Landmark Human Resources or the Community Center in Bridgton.
Historical society program and supper
WEST PARIS — The West Paris Historical Society will meet Monday, Aug. 19, for a potluck supper and short meeting.
Guest speakers Brian and Suzanne Dunham of Greenwood will talk about maple sugar, honey bees and saving the farm.
At last month’s meeting, Hugh Swan of Greenwood did a presentation on #1-Hobo during the years of the Depression.
About 20 people were present for the calendar drawing and brownies and ice cream on July 29. The winners were Judy Rollins, Darlene Bean, Mary Ann Brown, Tina Alexander, Ruth Hebert, Kevin Billings, Donna Kennison, Ruth Hazeltine, Phil and Terry Merrill, Mickey Limatte, Mary Lovejoy, Silvia McCann, Katherine Tracy, Charmain Penley and Cathy Bassette. Some won more than once.
Sons of Legion to hold yard sale
OXFORD — The Sons of the American Legion will host a “Mega Yard Sale” on Saturday, Aug. 24.
Volunteers are needed. Commander Nelson “Skip” Foley said it may be a good opportunity for area high school seniors who are required to do community service.
