SUMNER —  Pastor Howard MacMullen invites the public to community events at the Congregational Church of East Sumner, 50 Main St.

There will be a campfire and sing-along from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, as the beans are put in the bean hole. The following evening, Saturday, Aug. 24, the annual summer bean-hole beans and barbecue chicken supper will be held at 5:30 p.m. There will also be fruit cobbler, salad and rolls. The cost is $7 for adults, $3 under 12, $20 family maximum. Proceeds will benefit the outreach work of the church.

On Monday, Sept. 2, the church will take part in the Buckfield Community Day parade honoring veterans and will have a pie table at the community event following the parade. The proceeds from the pie sale will help support a Church World Service child in Africa and a child at the Haiti Outreach Ministries.

On Saturday, Sept. 14, the church will host the annual Camp and Carve Weekend for the Streaked Mountain Woodcarvers. The woodcarvers will have items displayed as they work on new projects in the pavilion in the church yard. There will be a community bean-hole bean supper at 5:30 p.m.

The church will have a combined Harvest Festival and Barn Sale on Saturday, Sept. 28. Garden produce, baked goods and household furniture and items will be on sale.

In addition, there will be a collection for needed items for the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Most needed are new blankets, quilts, hats, mittens and hats for newborn infants. The reservation is the second most-depressed area in the northern hemisphere.

Pastor Leon Dorleans, leader of the Haiti Outreach Ministries and a pastor in Cite Soleil, will be the guest speaker at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, during the worship service.
