KINGFIELD — Maine Huts and Trails has announced the addition of a new trailhead leading to the Grand Falls Hut. The new parking area off the Lower Enchanted Road is a half mile hike from the Grand Falls Hut, and is open to Maine Huts and Trails guests, as well as trail users.
The addition provides easy access to the hut, the falls and activities on the Dead River, including fishing, swimming and paddling. With the new trailhead, summer guests now have the opportunity for shortened afternoon trips on the trails.
The Grand Falls Hut is known for its Class III/IV paddling on Dead River and trout and salmon fishing.
“Grand Falls Hut has traditionally been the most remote and secluded hut in the Maine Huts and Trails system and this new trailhead provides hikers, bikers and day trippers the chance to experience this hut,” said Charlie Woodworth, executive director.
