1927-2013

AUBURN — Liane Alice Demers Fortin, 85, of Auburn passed away Thursday Aug. 14.

She was born Dec. 6, 1927, in Auburn, the daughter of Ludger and Cesarie (Gagne) Demers. She was employed for many years by Loan Shoe Company, Bon-Ann Footwear and other local shoe manufacturers.

In September 2001, she married Edward B. Fortin. She was a patient, loving and devoted caregiver for her parents, her aunt Julie Eccles and most recently, her husband.

Liane was outgoing, loving, caring, “happy-go-lucky” and a real “people person.” She was an enthusiastic organizer of family events and always ready to help others. She knew many people and was in touch often with her loved ones. Liane’s family all knew to ask her if they wanted the latest news about a family member. She was the keeper of the family history and would light up when asked to tell stories of “the olden days.”

Liane was a member of the New Auburn Senior Citizens. She thoroughly enjoyed a number of trips with her group of elder friends, and was dedicated to selling tickets at regular senior events. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church.

Liane is survived by her husband, Edward Fortin; her sister, Elizabeth Duchesneau of Newcastle; her sister-in-law, Midge Demers of Auburn; two godchildren, Lucien Grenier and Jane Whitmore; along with numerous nieces, nephews and their children and grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, Ludger and Cesarie (Gagne) Demers; her sisters, Irene Tremblay (1977) and Thelma (Annette) Grenier (1984); her brothers, Robert Demers (1999), Alcide Demers (2000), Andrew Demers Sr. (1981) and Roger Demers (1999); along with her nephews, Marcel Demers (2001), Paul Demers (2007) and Normand Tremblay (1992); and numerous other cousins and relatives.

Liane will be remembered for her bright spirit, her concern for others and her warm, welcoming hugs. We will all miss her exuberance, inquisitive nature and infectious laugh.
