1932 – 2013

SOUTH PARIS — Alfred J. Carroll Sr., 80, of Mechanic Falls, died on Aug. 14, at Maine Veterans Home in South Paris, with his family at his side.

Alfred was born on Sept. 23, 1932, in New Gloucester, the son of Lloyd Carroll and Phylanese Carver.

He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War, earning the Korean War Service with one Bronze Star, the U.N. Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Alfred had been retired since 1990. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Farmers’ Draft Horse Club, Big Bucks Club of Maine and the NRA. He enjoyed hunting throughout Maine, especially at his camp in Gilead with his friends and family. He also enjoyed horses, spending time with family and he was the original “Horse Trader.” He took great pride in passing this “craft” unto his sons and grandson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Catherine; his sons, Alfred Jr. and his companion, Bonnie Beaulieu, Daniel and his wife, Lisa; daughter, Tammy and her husband, Mark Brant; brothers, Donald, Robert and his wife, Brenda, Ronald, Ricky and his wife, Nancy; sister Nancy; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces; and nephews.

Alfred was predeceased by both of his parents; stepfather, James Carver; his brothers, Francis and Jim Jr.; and his sister, Freda.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at CMMC floor M4, the staff at D’Youville Pavilion, and the staff at Maine Veterans Home in South Paris for their kind and diligent care for Alfred.
