DEAR SUN SPOTS: New Beginnings Educational Support Program seeks assistance from column readers. The New Beginnings Education program supports homeless youth, ages 13 to 19, who are not enrolled in school.

Youth in this program benefit tremendously from having access to school supplies, like books, writing utensils, rulers, poster board, calculators, scissors and notebooks. We hope to obtain donations of school supplies so we can serve more youth, more fully.

If anyone has items like this that they would like to donate, please call me at 207-795-6048. — Sarah Vazquez, program coordinator and educational support specialist, sarah@newbeginmaine.org

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I wanted to write in response to the film user angry about the lack of one-hour film processing (Aug. 8). Film camera use is not dead! Almost five years ago now, I founded a group of film users and we go by the title Maine Traditional Film Photographers.

We utilize both color and black-and-white films, use a variety of camera formats, including 35-mm, medium- and large-format and pinhole camera. Many of us develop and print our own work.

We meet once a month at the Harlow Gallery in Hallowell, and our membership is far-reaching, from Berwick to Edgecomb to Livermore Falls and points in between.

We now ask for a $35 annual fee to become a member. We’re a very dedicated and happy bunch and enjoy sharing our passions. If anyone would like more information, they can contact me at cirehlan@gmail.com. We also have a website, www.metfp.com, but admittedly it is in need of updating (apologies in advance).

For the prior writer’s information, there are quite a few venues one can send their film to for development if they are not satisfied locally. — Cindy Rehagen Langewisch

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Attention, crafters: Summer is moving by quickly, and the Greater Bridgton’s annual Maine Lakes Brewfest is a little over a month away, on Saturday, Sept. 28, at Point Sebago in Casco.

This fun event showcasing the Sebago Lakes Region and Maine beers attracts about 3,000 folks, rain or shine. Again this year, we’re asking Sun Spots’ readers if they know of any crafters who would like to participate in Point Sebago’s craft show, which is set up outside the beer tents in Sebago Square from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

You would need to supply your own tent, table, chairs, etc. For more information and an application, please call Deb Doherty at 207-655-1708 or email her at ddoherty@pointsebago.com. Thank you. — Ruth York, director of special events, Point Sebago

DEAR SUN SPOTS: This is a huge thank-you to the residents of Maison Marcotte (St. Mary’s Residence) for their good thoughts and prayers.

My husband and I have been waiting two-and-a-half years for a handicapped couple’s apartment, and it finally happened this July.

We will be moving in soon, and a good part of our success is due to your good thoughts and prayers. So, again, thank you very much. — Julien and Claire Gosselin, jgosselin91948@roadrunner.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am writing in response to the Aug. 7 inquiry from older people looking for someone to do their housework. I have been cleaning houses and offices for 10 years and have many references. — Susie Crossley, Susie’s Cleaning, Lewiston, 783-7785
