BANGOR — Husson University announced on Wednesday that it has hired veteran athletic administrator Frank Pergolizzi as the school’s next director of athletics.
Pergolizzi comes to Bangor from a similar post at West Virginia University Institute of Technology in Montgomery, W.Va.
“I’m very impressed with the outstanding program at Husson and the excellent coaches and staff that serve Eagle student-athletes,” Pergolizzi said in a Husson news release. “I look forward to working with them to continue to build a culture of excellence both on and off the playing fields. The goal is for student-athletes to have great success, both athletically and academically.”
Pergolizzi has more than 20 years of experience as a collegiate director of athletics. In addition to his time at WVU Tech, he also served as AD at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, La., and worked at East Tennessee State University and St. Francis (Pa.) College.
He’s no stranger to Maine, either: Pergolizzi was one of three finalists for the vacant University of Maine AD position back in 2006, when UMaine eventually hired Blake James.
When he was introduced as a UMaine finalist, Pergolizzi explained that he’d started his professional career in the Pine Tree State, taking a job at Hebron Academy, where he was the head football, basketball and girls’ lacrosse coach.
Husson president Robert Clark praised his new director of athletics for his focus on developing well-rounded student-athletes.
“Frank is a leader and motivator whose dedication to excellence brings new energy and excitement to our athletic programs,” Clark said in the release. “His commitment to the ideals of the ‘student-athlete’ extends both on and off the field. Frank is devoted to ensuring that undergraduates involved in athletic competition take their studies seriously.”
Since 2010 Husson has expanded its athletic program with the addition of men’s and women’s swimming and diving and women’s indoor track and field. The school fields teams in 18 sports that compete in four different athletic conferences.
