CHESTERVILLE — Five people were trapped Wednesday after a broken utility pole beside Ridge Road landed on one vehicle and wires on another, Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said. No one was injured, he said.

Brandy Krause, 68, of Wilton was driving her Honda CRV north at about 3:38 p.m. when it struck the pole, snapped it and continued into the woods, the sheriff said.

A piece of the pole landed on a Jeep behind her. Driver Lisa Tracy, 41, and passengers Dale Morse, 45, and Jordan Morse, 11, all of New Sharon, were trapped inside, he said.

Power lines also struck a vehicle behind Tracy. It was driven by Bernice Page, 59, of Farmington and left him and her passenger, Alan Page, 63, of Farmington, trapped inside, Nichols said.

Central Maine Power Co. arrived to shut power to the line.

Sheriff’s Cpl. Christopher Chase issued Krause a ticket on a charge of distracted driving, he said.

Nichols, Chesterville Fire Department and NorthStar EMS ambulance also responded to the scene.
