PORTLAND — The “Smashers” of Lewiston, composed of 14 and under tennis players, recently competed at the state championship match at the Racket & Fitness Center. The winner advanced to the New England Championship, which was won by a New Hampshire team that plays in Maine in the York area.
The Smashers came in as state runner-up. The team format included a boys’ single and doubles, a girl singles and doubles, and a mixed doubles. The championship was determined by the most games won. The “Smashers” face defeated a team from York and and then faced the N.H. team. Although it was a 14-and-under division, many of our players were 11 and 12 years olds. The following were members: Cole Ouellette, Maddi Roy, Maddie LeBlond, Jack LeBlond, Ben St.Laurent, Ben Ferrence, Cassidy Tibbetts, & Megan Morris. Another USTA team from Lewiston that competed are the “Aces.” Team members of that team include: Molly Chicoine, Roslyn Wailus, Julia Svor, Abby Svor, Cameron Dionne, Ben Laroche, Jacob Smith, & Caden Smith. The team was coached by Anita Murphy.
