Color Me Rad 5K is Saturday

BRUNSWICK — Color Me Rad 5K Maine will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Brunswick Landing.

As runners complete the 3.1-mile course they’ll be doused in color that not only tie-dyes their T-shirts, but they’ll also be having the most fun they’ve ever had while running, according to organizers. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The YMCA of Maine.

Baked bean, ham supper

LISBON — The Methodist Women will hold a home baked bean and ham supper from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Lisbon United Methodist Church, School Street.

Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for ages 6-12.

Free clothing at thrift shop

LITCHFIELD — The Litchfield Academy Thrift Shop will offer free clothing to all from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays, Aug. 24 and Sept. 14.

This includes men’s, women’s and children’s wear. The giveaway is not limited to Litchfield residents.

This is an excellent opportunity to supplement new school clothes without breaking the bank. For folks losing weight, this is an opportunity to bridge to new sizes.

The shop is near the corner of Route 197 and the Academy Road. It is the older building with the bell tower, right beside Libby Tozier School.

Lewiston Bridge Club winners

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners of the Grand National Pairs game at the Lewiston Armory on Aug. 19 were as follows: first, Jan and Vern Arey; second, Jeanine Kivus and David Lock; third/fourth tie, Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer with Rosemarie Goodwin and Bill Clifford; fourth/fifth tie in B, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe with Les Buzzell and Bailey Geeslin; 1st in C, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe.

Winners on Aug. 20 were: first/second tie, Marta Clements and Hazel Glazier with Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; third, Nancy Lindgren and Les Buzzell; fourth, Jeanine Kivus and Patricia Quinn.

Sabattus Seniors meet, plan trips

SABATTUS — Sabattus Seniors will meet Thursday, Sept. 5, at Maxwell Gill Hall for their monthly meeting and meal. This month’s menu will be Chinese pie with pickled beets and dessert. The meal will be followed by a meeting and bingo.

Spots available on Branson trip

RUMFORD — Rumford Senior Center is hosting a fall bus trip to Branson Show Extravaganza.

This is an 11-day, 10-night tour trip. The bus will leave from the Rumford Senior Center and Fireside Inn in Auburn on Nov. 15 and will return on Nov. 25. The cost is $905 pp/do. $75 is required to reserve a seat and is due by Sept. 9.

Featured shows are Cassandre: Voice of an Angel Show, George Dyer Show, Buck Trent Show, The Haygoods Show, The Dutton Family Show, The Great American Christmas Show featuring Tony Orlando, and Showboat Branson Belle.

Other points of interest in the tour are the Made in America Store, Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

‘Widow’s Heart’ conference

AUBURN — The annual “Making the Widow’s Heart Sing” conference will be held Sept. 20-21 at East Auburn Baptist Church.

The keynote speaker, Miriam Neff, is an accomplished speaker and author. She has journeyed through widowhood and learned valuable lessons that many have found extremely helpful.

The titles of Miriam’s talks: Finding Your Mission: A Purpose Worth Living For,What We Have Now: Tools for the Transition, and Facing Forward: Bold Living in Our New Life give a glimpse of what she will be sharing.

In addition, there are 12 practical workshops from which to choose, including: dealing with grief, what to do with loneliness, help with finances, and expert social services advice.
