My letter of July 25 regarding the inadequacies of the Democrat-led government had defensive responses from David Marquis (July 31) and Nancy Willard (Aug. 1).

Marquis admitted that the Obama administration made mistakes in handling the tragic events at Benghazi, refusing to send requested aid to those trapped there. He had no comment about individuals not taking responsibility for those mistakes.

Neither person had commentary on 1,200 organizations (many unions, and now the congressional staff employees) being exempted from Obamacare. They must know something. I expect that Congress and other governmental units are also exempt.

A previous Democrat-controlled Congress’ blind passage of Obamacare showed the lack of careful planning and no understanding of the consequences that will be suffered. Among those are an additional debt problem, workers’ loss of existing insurance and job reductions to 29 hours.

Republicans are currently trying to prevent the infliction of this disaster on this country, and can come forward with a better plan without people losing their 40-hour jobs and benefits.

A Republican plan presented now would not get past the Senate Democratic majority.

Willard and Marquis did not justify the current outrageous and growing $17 trillion national debt, which doubled since the Democrats took over in 2008.

Willard said “Democrats do not believe government should interfere in people’s private lives.” That is great political rhetoric, but not what they are doing. Actions speak louder than words.

People deserve better.
