WILTON — Urban E. West, 87, of Wilton, died peacefully at home on Saturday, Aug. 24, in the company of family.
He was born in Wilton, son of Everett and Zetta (Hill) West and attended schools in Wilton. Urban left high school during his senior year to join the Navy during WW2. While in the Navy, Urban attended machinist school in Chicago and later served on an LCT (Landing Craft Tank) in the Philippines. In 1946, at the war’s end, he was honorably discharged. After returning home from the service he met and married, Beverly Field, of Chesterville, Me. Urban was a member of Wilton American Legion for over 60 years, holding many leadership positions up through district commander. He was also a long time member of 40 & 8 and the VFW. Many years later during his senior years Urban received an honorary High School diploma due to his honorable service in the Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly West, of Wilton; a son, Brian West, of Brentwood, N.H.; a daughter, Paula Griswold and her husband, Dale, of Wasilla, Alaska; a daughter, Cheri Klinker and her husband, Len, of Neptune, N.J.; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
