CANTON — The Board of Selectmen approved a request by the Western Maine ATV Club to use town property for its Christmas toy run Sept. 28.

According to the club’s website, riders will meet at McDonald’s parking lot in Jay at 7:30 a.m. or at the end of the Whistle Stop Trail on the Town Farm Road in Farmington at 9 a.m. Riders will go to Canton to leave new and wrapped toys at the field next to the community garden on Route 140. Afterward, they will ride to Jay for a barbecue.

All toys will be distributed locally by Western Maine Community Action. For more information contact Brian Jordan at 357-4460.

In other business at last week’s board meeting, resident Percy Butler asked about the proposed sale of the old municipal building and was told a Realtor would be contacted as soon as the building is emptied.

Selectman Jackie Conant asked why a Realtor was necessary because the town had sold its buildings before, but board Chairman Shane Gallant said it would be best to put it in the hands of a Realtor.

Leon Bucher of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife told the board that while building an access road to the boat ramp on Lake Anasagunticook, workers hit ledge so they made catch basins with pipes running under the road to handle runoff. He also explained how the easement would work around the site of the dam and access road.
