LEWISTON — SeniorsPlus Education Center has announced the September 2013 classes. All classes are free, unless noted. The center is at 8 Falcon Road and is fully accessible. Hearing assistive equipment is available. To register call 795-4010.

Winter Plant Care: Preparing Your Plants for Winter will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday , Sept. 10, with instructor Roger Provencher, Provencher Landscape Nursery.

Living with Alzheimer’s, for caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s Disease, will be a three-part program addressing the early, middle and late stages. Classes will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 10 and 24 and Oct. 1. Instructor is Bill Kirkpatrick of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Hear from those directly affected and learn what you need to know, what you need to plan and what you can do at each point along the way.

Savvy Caregiver I will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 11 through Oct. 16. Instructor is John Miller, dementia educator

The 12-hour training for family caregivers of people with dementia will teach how to build positive attitudes and skills that will support both the caregiver and others.

Maine’s Geology: Our Bedrock and Fossils will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, with instructor Robert G. Marvinney, state geologist, Maine Geological Survey. The history and beauty found in Maine will be explored.

River Cruises! Train Trips! Airlines! will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19. Instructor will be Eileen Fogg of AAA. Both new and experienced travelers will have the opportunity to see how easy, convenient and beautiful travel has become.

Veterans’ Discussion Group will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Sept. 24. Instructor will be John Snyder. Veterans are invited to meet with and share stories with other vets.

Planning for the Good Life will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24. The instructor will be Androscoggin Trust & Wealth Management. Learn to better understand the steps to planning a sound retirement: How much money will you need? What are your available sources of income? How can you protect your nest egg from risks? This is a “sales pitch free” workshop. Participants’ information will not be provided to the presenter.

Healthy Cooking for One or Two will take place from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, with Rebecca Dugan of St. Mary’s Nutrition Center. There will be discussion, food tasting and recipes.

What’s Happening to My Body As It Ages? Doctor Patient Discussion, will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, with instructor Alan Verrill, M.D., of CMMC. The field of medicine and its rules have been changing over the years. Come be part of a discussion that will provide you with useful, usable information. Class readings are available for pick up at SeniorsPlus.

AARP Safe Driving will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27. Instructor will be Tom Harvey. Cost is $14, payable to AARP; $12 for AARP members. Drivers 55 and older who complete this class are eligible for discounts on their auto insurance premiums for three years.
