Festival has 18 live performances and more than 100 artists lined up

SOUTH CARTHAGE – From Sept. 11-15, the inaugural Crossroads International Celtic Festival will take place at multiple venues throughout western Maine communities including unique locations like The Washburn-Norlands Living History Center and Stratton Brook, the newest hut in the Maine Huts and Trails system.

These venues will host an impressive group of more than 100 musicians including the finest of Maine’s musicians, singers, dancers and storytellers, and artists from all over the Celtic world including Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Quebec, Scotland, and Ireland, as well as from across the United States.

Each day’s artists will perform after hours at the Whitecap Lodge at Sunday River, Newry (The Festival Club) in a lively, intimate and relaxed setting from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.

“Unique, inviting and scenic venues in western Maine will add another level to the quality of the festival and are perfect backdrops for the dozens of concerts and community events that are part of this celebration of music and culture,” said Phill McIntyre, artistic director of Crossroads. “The venues will perfectly complement the 40-plus high-caliber groups of artists performing during the festival.”

In all, 18 live performances featuring more than 100 artists will take place. A complete list of artists can be found at http://crossroadscelticfestival.com/artists. Visit the festival website for tickets and the most up-to-date information.

A consortium of partner organizations has created this dynamic, cross-county festival to celebrate Celtic music, promote economic development in western Maine and support local arts organizations. Crossroads International Celtic Festival is sponsored by United Insurance, Linda Clifford Scottish & Irish Merchant, and supported in part by grants from the Maine Office of Tourism, the Maine Community Foundation, and the Maine Arts Commission.
