LEWISTON — Lewiston Adult Education has a variety of workforce training courses available this fall, in fields such as computer technology, the trades, health care and accounting. Workforce training courses are scheduled to start the week of Sept. 2.

This fall’s trades offerings will include four hands-on courses: woodworking, small engine and power equipment repair and the two levels of welding that make up the Welding Certificate.

Lewiston Adult Education also offers three different certificate programs for those interested in becoming qualified for different types of office jobs.

The Clerical Certificate is designed to help participants become competitive candidates for a support role in an office. Those who complete the Clerical Certificate will have gained hands-on training in computers, accounting and business writing and communication. This semester, Lewiston Adult Education will be offering accounting I, computer literacy and effective workplace communications as credit towards the Clerical Certificate.

The Accounting Assistant Certificate is a next-level certificate that builds upon the skills developed in the Clerical Certificate. Those who earn the Accounting Assistant Certificate will have completed higher-level accounting training, in addition to courses in MS Excel and QuickBooks.

The Medical Office Certificate is another next-level certificate available to those who have completed a Clerical Certificate. The Medical Office Certificate shows that the recipient has gone through additional training specific to a medical office, including medical billing, medical coding and medical terminology. All three of these class are being offered this fall.

Students may formally enroll in a certificate program upon registration, or they may begin by taking any individual class.

A new computer training is also being launched this fall on computer and information technology science. This training is comprised of three courses: computer hardware fundamentals, operating systems and troubleshooting, and home networking.

Many of these courses begin the week of Sept. 2. For more information, visit www.lewistonadulted.org or call 795-4141.
