PARIS — Protecting information and information systems from unauthorized access, use, modification or destruction has become a vital task in today’s society. The University of Maine at Fort Kent now offers an online Bachelor of Science program in computer applications: information security designed to prepare students to work in information security and related fields or to further their education at the graduate level.
Students without access to high-speed Internet services may use the computer lab at University College at South Paris to participate in courses. University College advisers offer a range of support services to students, including computer access, career counseling, course registration, book selection and more. Financial aid is available for qualified students, as are university scholarships.
The program prepares graduates to enter the work force in positions such as information security administrator, information security director, computer security specialist and others.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics employment in the information security field is expected to grow especially fast, increasing 30 percent by 2020. They report that as cyber attacks have grown in frequency and sophistication, many organizations are lagging in their ability to detect these assaults.
