LANG TOWNSHIP — Two-time Olympic gold medal winner Seth Wescott struck a moose with his Volkswagen Eurovan on Route 16 early Thursday, Franklin County Lt. David Rackliffe said.
Wescott, 37, of Carrabassett Valley was not hurt and the moose got up and returned to the woods, the lieutenant said. The collision occurred as Wescott was headed northeast from Rangeley to Eustis at about 1:14 a.m. The moose came out of the woods and onto the road, hitting the left side of the van, Rackliffe said.
Damage to the 2002 Eurovan is estimated at $3,000 to $4,000.
Wescott won gold medals at the 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics in the snowboard cross.
