FARMINGTON — Sign-ups for the Farmington Recreation Department’s “Prep” Soccer Program will be held Sept. 3, 4 and 5 at the Recreation Department Office at the Community Center.

The director of the six-week program is Zac Conlogue. The program serves kindergarten students ages 5 and 6 who want to take part in the entry level soccer program.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3. The registration deadline is 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5. Registrations will not be taken over the phone.

Practices begin at 2:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, in the outfield of the Little League Park at Hippach Field.

Registration forms are available at the Farmington Community Center. This is not an RSU 9 program but materials printed by the Farmington Recreation Department will be passed out at school.

The registration fee is $25 and a $5 nonresident fee is charged to those who do not reside in or pay property taxes to the Town of Farmington (defined as Farmington, West Farmington, Farmington Falls and Fairbanks). A souvenir T-shirt will be provided to each participant at no additional cost.

Protective shin guards are optional and may be purchased for $5 per pair.

To assist the Recreation Department in tracking payments for any of the program fees, the preference is to accept only personal checks or money orders.

Additionally, all transactions involving program costs must take place at the Farmington Community Center to ensure proper receipting.

This noncompetitive format successfully introduced 45 youngsters last year to the sport of soccer in a pressure-free atmosphere. The program concentrates solely on teaching the elementary skills of soccer. There will be no roster assignments, no playing schedules to follow and no trophies to win in “Prep” Soccer. Children will learn about the sport and practice fundamentals through fun games, simple drills and exercises and abbreviated pickup scrimmages.

Conlogue played four seasons of soccer at the collegiate level for Castleton State in Vermont and graduated from the school last spring. Prior to that, he was a member of the Mt. Blue High School boys’ varsity soccer team. While in high school, he volunteered as a coach in the Recreation Department’s Instructional Soccer League and also served as director of the this same “Prep” soccer program his last two years at Mt. Blue.
