RANGELEY PLANTATION — Two teenagers were injured Thursday afternoon after the vehicle there were riding in went off South Shore Drive and struck trees.
The trees were the only thing that kept the car from plunging into Rangeley Lake, Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said.
Alexandra Kiser, 16, of Rangeley was driving a 2006 Dodge Stratus, failed to negotiate a corner, went off the road, overcorrected and struck trees, he said.
Both Kiser and Ashley Kiser, 15, a passenger, were taken by a NorthStar EMS ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington for treatment of injuries, he said.
“According to investigating officer, Cpl. Nate Bean, driver distraction was the main reason for the accident,” he said.
Rangeley Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene of the accident reported at 2:19 p.m.
The car was destroyed, Nichols said.
The crash remains under investigation.
