Training for Maine CASA

AUGUSTA — The next CASA training is scheduled for Nov. 5-8.

Thousands of children are currently under the protection of the Maine child welfare system. These children are in state care because of allegations of abuse and neglect. Each of these children has an adult assigned to them by the court, sometimes called a Court Appointed Special Advocate.

The CASA’s job is to conduct an investigation and advise the court on what is in that child’s best interest. CASAs are everyday people who volunteer to be the voice of a child in a child protection case.

For more information about Maine CASA or about becoming a volunteer, contact Tracy Leigh, volunteer coordinator, at 287-5829 or Tracy.Leigh@courts.maine.gov. Visit www.casaofmaine.org and “like” the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/MaineCasa.
