WINTHROP — Winthrop’s “Can Film Festival” will continue at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at the Friends Meeting House on Winthrop Center Road, Route 135. The objective of the festival is to have fun, see great films appealing to all age groups, and support local food banks.

The price of admission is a can or two or three cans, or boxed food items to help support Winthrop area food banks.

The Friday night feature is a G-rated movie from 1979 about a black stallion and a boy (Kelly Reno), the relationship they forge when they save each other’s lives during a shipwreck, and a trainer (Mickey Rooney) who helps them win a match race against the country’s fastest racehorses.

Adapted from a book by Walter Farley and produced by Francis Ford Coppola, the film is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful and visually stunning movies ever filmed. In fact, it was selected in 2002 for preservation in the United States Film Registry.

This is a family film that fascinates adults as much as kids, if not more so. Plan to attend this celebration of one of America’s favorite films, enjoy a family night out together, and make a contribution to your community.
