JAY — Police conducted a bail check on a local man Wednesday and charged him with having 3.9 grams of heroin and needles, straws and spoons to use the drug, officer Nicholas Gulliver said Thursday.

Christopher Q. Nault, 44, was arrested on a charge of felony aggravated unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs and a charge of violation of condition of release, Gulliver said.

A conviction on the drug charge carries a sentence of up to 30 years in prison.

Officer Mike Mejia was training officer Derrick Doucette when the two and Gulliver did a bail check at an apartment at 26 Jewell St.

Nault was out on bail on previous charges, including failing to stop for an officer, driving to endanger, eluding an officer and aggravated operating after habitual offender revocation, Gulliver said. One of Nault’s bail conditions from the July 25 arrest is that he not possess or use illegal drugs. He is subject to random search and testing, Gulliver said.

When police searched the apartment, they found 3.9 grams of heroin and the drug paraphernalia, he said. The drug was tested and proved to be heroin, he said.

The Jewell Street residence is within 1,000 feet of Church Street Park, where there is a playground, and is considered a drug-free zone.

Nault was being held without bail Thursday morning at the Franklin County jail in Farmington, a corrections officer said.
