DEAR SUN SPOTS: I would like to know who is responsible for cleaning the beach at No Name Pond in Lewiston. For a nice clean pond the beach is a disaster. Thank you for all the help you provide. — Ron, bocamp1@myfairpoint.net

ANSWER: Sun Spots could only find out that it is managed by a homeowners association. Hopefully some readers can provide contact information for that group.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Would the kind gentleman who offered to reglue my dining room chair a while ago please return it to me or call 783-9747. Thanks much. — Sheila Patrick, Lewiston

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’d like to ask if there is someone who would have a washing machine to give and deliver for an elderly lady. Washing by hand is hard work when you’re in your 70s. Thank you so much. — Miss Anita, Lewiston

ANSWER: Sun Spots is so sorry, but individuals cannot ask for free items. Only charities can do that.

Readers who are having trouble finding something can offer to buy it from other readers who have it, but they can’t ask for it for free.

Sun Spots often sends readers to Freecyle (see the next letter), but you have to have a computer for that.

Maybe a local appliance dealer has a used model he will sell for a price that will fit your budget.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: We enjoy your column. People looking for “free” or looking to donate unwanted items might want to check out freecycle.org. It’s free to join, and you can post “offers” and “wanted” items.

I’d also like to thank you for your list of upholsterers. We used Alterations by Judy on Sabattus Street to make porch chair cushion covers, and the work was excellent.

Thank you. — Helen Clougherty, helenlv@juno.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Just wanted to let you know that in response to our Aug. 15 request we’ve gotten five sewing machine donations! We probably can’t take any more at the high school but want to thank everyone so very much for thinking of our art program. — Ellen Hodgkin, ehodgkin@auburnschl.edu
