CMCC announces special fall term
AUBURN — Central Maine Community College is offering a special eight-week fall term, with classes beginning Sept. 30 and ending Nov. 22.
Classes will meet twice a week during the day or evening. The following courses will be offered: Introduction to Computers; Human Biology; Understanding Business; Public Speaking; Interpersonal Communication; Introduction to Criminal Justice; Macroeconomics; Basic Writing; College Writing; Technical Writing; Substance Abuse; Intermediate Algebra; Introduction to Psychology; Introduction to Sociology (online); and First-Year Seminar.

Grants available for historic preservation projects
ELLSWORTH — The Maine Community Foundation, in partnership with the Maine Historic Preservation Commission’s New Century Grant Program, is seeking proposals to its Belvedere Historic Preservation Fund.
Grant awards up to $25,000 are available for the preservation and reuse of historic buildings in rural areas that serve as civic, cultural or economic hubs for communities.
Last year, the Belvedere Historic Preservation Fund awarded $120,900 to 12 organizations. Grants ranged in size from $5,000 to $15,000.

New support group for veterans
RAYMOND — A new support group for veterans and their families will start Monday, Oct. 14, and will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. the second Monday of the month thereafter at 1288 Roosevelt Trail.
Parking is in the back of the building. The group will be a place for veterans of all ages and their families to connect and support one another.
