EDITORIAL — The growing Bates College campus will have a brand new chemistry building, as a result of the largest single gift ever given the institution. The new building, which will replace the aging facilities of Hedge Laboratory, is made possible by $400,000 gift from the Charles A. Dana Foundation Inc. of Greenwich, Conn. The new chemistry building will cost an estimated $650,000. It was the fact that Bates College has been undertaking a program of construction and improvements which played a large part in the decision of the Foundation to make the large gift. Charles A. Dana, industrialist and philanthropist who created the Foundation, visited the Bates campus and was impressed by the newly completed science building. We share the happiness of the Bates community in this new step forward.
