1917 – 2013

RUMFORD — M. Haldon Lovejoy, 96, of Dixfield, passed away Thursday, Sept. 12, at Rumford Hospital.

He was born in New Sharon on Feb. 19, 1917. He attended Farmington schools and played football at Farmington High School, graduating in 1935. He then went on to attend Farmington Normal School (UMF), graduating in 1938, with a degree in education. He taught school before enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he served during World War II in France. Upon returning from the war, he met and married his best friend and soul mate, Virginia Nottage, on Aug. 25, 1946.

Haldon went to work at a local woolen mill in Wilton and then for Oxford Paper/Boise Cascade Paper Mill in Rumford, moving to Dixfield in 1954. He worked there until his retirement in 1977, and wintered in Deltona, Fla. He was a member of the VFW in Mexico and the American Legion post in Wilton. Haldon spent many happy hours fishing Moosehead and Chesuncook Lakes with his friends and family.

Haldon is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Virginia; his son, William and wife, Rita, of Dexter; grandchildren, Missy and husband, Mike, and their children, Jensen and Janetta, Michele and Heather Ann, Jason and wife, Amanda, and their children, Noah and soon to be Sadie, Joshua and wife, Cathy, and their daughter, Alyssa, William and wife, Stephanie, and Abe and wife, Nicole, and their children, Kiara, Lily and Max.

He was predeceased by his parents; and one son, Sgt. David Lovejoy.
