Three Lewiston milk dealers are in for a session with the municipal court for selling watered milk. Warrants for their arrest were obtained on Monday by a State dairy inspector. According to the inspector, tests were made of the milk from these dealers and samples were found to be very much watered. It is alleged that the dealers had this watered milk in their possession for the purpose of selling. It was decided by the authorities not to make the names of those whose against whom the warrants were secured public until after the documents could be served.

Cleanup operations continued yesterday at Lewiston fairgrounds, scene of a disastrous early morning fire Thursday in which 26 race horses perished and damage totaled $100,000. One horse, Blue Skies, owner unknown, had to be killed in a field near the fire scene after it had broken a leg during the excitement of escaping the blaze. It was estimated that between 275 and 300 horses were stabled at the fairgrounds at the time of the fire. Bulldozers and crews were at work cleaning up the area yesterday. Crews will start hauling gravel today, making the area ready for the construction of new barns in time to provide accommodations for horses during the fall race meet scheduled for Oct.14 to Nov. 16. Several of the horses are now at Norway, while others are at Rochester and Topsham. Others are being housed in other barns, including the structure on the King Avenue side of the fairgrounds. Yesterday’s strong winds rekindled some embers, causing a small blaze which was put under control quickly by the crew using garden hoses, and by Engine 8 from the Lewiston Fire Department. As far as the cause of the fire is concerned, little more is known.

Following the recommendations of the Solid Waste Committee, selectmen at their meeting Monday night voted to schedule a referendum asking residents to adopt a proposed waste management ordinance, and join the Mid-Maine Waste Action Committee, in Auburn.
