DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am hoping Sun Spots can find out if the town of Lisbon is going to expand the walking trails. I had thought that there was already money for this to be done, but I may have heard incorrectly. Thank you for your excellent column! — No Name via email

ANSWER: Sun Spots got an answer to this question from E. Ryan Leighton, director of Lisbon Public Works:

“Regarding the expansion of the Lisbon bicycle and pedestrian trails, the town of Lisbon was awarded a $1.6 million project in January 2010. Since that time, we have been in the design and permitting process.

“Due to the unique location of the trail, the permitting process took almost two years to complete as we worked with the railroad, as well as various environmental agencies.

“At the end of May 2013 we advertised the project for construction. We received four bids, and St. Laurent and Son of Lewiston was awarded the project in July. We are currently developing the schedule for construction and expect completion in the summer of 2014.”

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I lost my camera during the summer, possibly at the field hockey section at Spruce Mountain High School. It’s small, maybe four or five inches, a Lumix, raspberry colored in a bright pink case.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was told by a friend that our newspaper carriers have to buy those plastic bags that they put our morning paper in. With all the rain we’ve had this summer, those bags have been helpful.

But now I wonder if the carriers would like to reuse them, so I place them where they deliver the paper. It’s a small thing to do for them. Delivering papers in all sorts of weather can’t be easy. — Devoted Reader

ANSWER: Your friend is correct. The carriers, who are independent contractors, purchase the plastic sleeves at cost through the Sun Journal. Every one they reuse saves them about 1.5 cents.

Some newer carriers might not realize that they can reuse the bags. But if you leave your bags out on the curb, or wherever they deliver, with a note and a rock to hold them in place, they will surely get the hint.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I do enjoy your column and all the information you share with readers.

I’d like to know when did Sears at the Lewiston Mall close? I usually write down store openings and closings in my journal but failed to note Sears.

I do wish another store likes Ames would come back to this area. Thank you. — Shirley, Lewiston

ANSWER: You are not alone in your longing for more Lewiston shopping, as the reader on Sept. 7 lamented it as well.

As for Sears, it closed in Lewiston in mid-January. The new, smaller Sears opened in the Shaw’s plaza in late March and had a grand opening May 3 and 4.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Several weeks ago a story appeared in the Sun Journal featuring two local therapists who use specific body movements (feet, eyes) as therapy for anxiety and depression.

I would appreciate learning their names, the name of their practice and their phone number. — No Name, Lewiston
