MEXICO — Mary Hickey, licensed clinical social worker, announces the opening of her counseling office at The Gregory Inn, 676 River Road.
She has openings for new clients.
Describing herself as a generalist, Hickey uses a developmental model for the basis of her practice and is looking to work with a variety of individuals and groups aging from adolescents to senior citizens. Individuals with disabilities or mental illness are especially welcomed.
Hickey’s professional career began as a registered nurse after earning her baccalaureate degree in nursing from the University of Maine at Orono in 1985. She continues to maintain her nursing license after years of experience in a wide range of settings with more than 20 years of practice experience in geriatrics, acute care, crisis response and most recently spending summers as a camp nurse.
Graduating from the University of New England with a master’s degree in social work in 2002, Hickey accepted a position with the local Regional School Unit in the role of school social worker and continues to work for Buckfield Junior-Senior High School and Dirigo High School in Dixfield where she works with teens on issues such as divorce, loss, self-esteem, transitioning into adulthood and behavioral control.
As a lifelong resident of Western Maine, Hickey enjoys a variety of local activities, including the Rumford Area Association of Performing Arts and has been in many of the RAAPA performances and dinner theater productions.
She also volunteers as grief support leader for Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice’s Grieving Teens and Children’s Program. She lives with ther family and their two Goldendoodles.
Counseling at The Gregory Inn is held in a private and confidential setting. Hickey accepts MaineCare, Medicare and most private insurances. Referrals can be made by calling 364-4886.
