1927 – 2013

AUBURN — Robert “Bob” G. Albiker Jr. On Thursday, Sept. 12, Bob’s beautiful spirit was set free. He died peacefully in his home surrounded by his children after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born in Baltimore, Md. on July 17, 1927, to Robert G. and Mildred M. (nee Redifer) Albiker Sr. He attended schools in Pimlico and at 18 joined the Navy serving proudly as a gunner’s mate on the USS Craven and the USS Perkins.

After his discharge from the Navy he returned to his beloved hometown of Baltimore. On Nov. 27, 1948, Bob married the love of his life Dolores “Dolly” Landergren. They were married for 59 years before Dolly died on Aug. 8, 2008. Together they made their home on Subet Road in Baltimore County and raised their four children. Bob’s life was his family. He was very proud of each of his children, supported their many activities, and participated in their many activities. Whether it was coaching Rob’s football teams or skiing down a hill… Bob was happiest when he was spending time with his family. Bob was an active member of the Randallstown Optimist Club as well as the Boumi Temple Shrine.

He retired in 1990 and with Dolly realized their dream by moving to the Eastern Shore where they lived for 15 years in Swan Keys, Del. There they enjoyed boating, crabbing, and relaxing with new and old friends. As per usual, Bob was active in the community serving on many committees and with the local Optimist club. Many a night found them playing cards around the kitchen table with dear friends or gathering at their favorite restaurants.

November 2005 found Bob and Dolly moving to Maine to be near their daughter, Robin. Cold winter nights they warmed themselves by a blazing fire and warm summer days found them rocking on the back porch. Bob looked forward to his children visiting him, touring around Maine as well as his many trips back to Baltimore to reconnect with family and friends. Bob’s passion for sports followed him to Maine and he avidly rooted for his “Baltimore” teams. To say that Bob was ecstatic that the Raven’s won the Superbowl last year would be an understatement. He was anxiously waiting for this football season to begin. He now has seats on the 50 yard line.

The love he had for his children was evident to the very end. He was a devoted husband and father and instilled in his children the importance of family.

Bob is survived by his children. His daughters, Diane Reilly and Michael, Robin Jarvis and Bill Gore, Rosemary Phillips and Mike; son, Robert Albiker and Liz Fitzgerald; his grandchildren, Daniel and Jennifer Phillips, Russell and Shane Fitzgerald; his sister-in-law, Diana Landergren; nieces, Regina Hamilton and her husband, Pete, and Lisa Finnegan; great-niece Stephanie Ittner-Garee and her husband, Jason; great-nephews, Jim Ittner and his wife, Bethany, and Shane Finnegan; great-great-niece, Evelyn Garee; and great-great-nephew, Branson Finnegan; and many lifelong friends whom he loved dearly.

He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Hank “Sonny” Landergren.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all those that helped honor Bob’s wish to die in his own home. Your love and support will never be forgotten.
