1926 – 2013
WEST PARIS — Fernand Roger Sarasin, aka “Buckwheat,” 87, of Auburn, passed away on Monday, Sept. 23, at Ledgeview Living Center.
He was born in Lewiston on April 4, 1926, the son of Theophille and Emma (Lessard) Sarasin. Fernand married Priscilla (Caron) Sarasin in 1951, and Lucienne (Lavertu) Sarasin in 1975. He served in the civil defense, drove taxis and worked at Central Maine Medical Center for 20 years.
He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Lewiston, where he was a trustee for 20 years, drove the church bus and sang in the choir. He had a beautiful voice and was asked to sing on many occasions throughout his life.
Fernand loved gardening, canning, cooking and woodworking. He was very social and had a great sense of humor, right up to the last days of his life. He was loved and truly will be missed.
He is survived by his son, Roger Sarasin and his wife, Lona; his daughter, Linda Coffin and her husband, Duane; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six stepchildren and their families.
Fernand was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Priscilla; his wife, Lucienne; two brothers, Romeo and Henry; two sisters, Yvette Gagnon and Irene Belanger; and one daughter, Suzanne Pelletier.
