BANGOR — The trial of a Monroe woman charged with helping run a sophisticated marijuana growing operation with her husband and two adult sons has started in federal court in Bangor.

WABI-TV reported that Darlene Ford’s trial on drug and firearms-related charges started Monday in U.S. District Court.

The 58-year-old Ford was arrested in November 2011 after police said they found 300 marijuana plants and 10 pounds of processed pot that together are worth about $800,000 at their home. They also found two guns.

Prosecutors said Darlene Ford ran the finances of the business.

Ford’s lawyers said she had no knowledge of the marijuana growing operation, which was run by her husband, James F. Ford.

The Fords’ sons, both in their 30s, have both already pleaded guilty in the case.
