Marine Corps League meeting

AUBURN — The Marine Corps League Central Maine Detachment No. 810 will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at the American Legion Post 31, Washington Street.

All marines and Navy corpsmen are welcome to join.

Blues music will be provided by Poke Chop & The Other White Meat. There is no cover charge. The event is open to the public.

Apple Saturdays at Shaker Village

NEW GLOUCESTER — The Shakers have cultivated apples for more than 200 years, even developing two varieties of their own that were named the James Sweets and the Oliver Sweets.

Explore interesting aspects of the Shakers’ heritage during Apple Saturdays. Come enjoy the fall festival. Featured events on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. will include a home-baked apple pie sale, sale of the Shakers’ famous homemade potato doughnuts with hot coffee, guided museum tours and guided nature hikes through the Shakers’ woods at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Free cider pressing will take place all day long. Bring your own apples to be hand-pressed or purchase them at the Shaker Store.
