BANGOR (AP) — An eastern Maine man charged with murder in a shooting death outside his home last year is expected in court to plead guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter.

Prosecutors said Michael Carter of Lamoine has agreed to a 30-year sentence with all but 16 years suspended in exchange for having the charge downgraded. He’s scheduled to appear Wednesday in Penobscot County Superior Court in Bangor.

Carter was charged with fatally shooting 32-year-old Lawrence “Randy” Sinclair Jr. of Lamoine and injuring two other men in March 2012.

According to a police affidavit, the shooting was precipitated by a dispute between Carter and one of the injured men over a paint job on Carter’s truck.
