George W. Bowker, who on the seventh of September passed the eighty-second mile stone in the journey of life and entered upon the sixty-second year of his life as a workman, day after day goes to his bench in the Wade & Dunton factory, Lewiston, to ply his trade as carriage maker with hand steadier than many of middle age. For more than fifty years Mr. Bowker has remained in the employ of the Wade & Dunton Company. He has seen them grow from a small factory to the large concern that they are today. An update on what is being done to rid four classrooms at the Multi-Purpose School of a foul odor and a recommendation to chide a textbook company on a sexist textbook were two items the Lewiston School Committee discussed Monday evening. The odor at Multi-Purpose is the result of a roof leak that occurred Sept. 18 or 19. Water came through a makeshift patch on the roof of the city-owned building. The water damaged ceilings and carpets in four classrooms. School Committee members also approved the use of a 1988 textbook entitled “Motor Auto Body Repair.” A member suggested that a letter be sent to the publisher stating that “we will accept it for the year but in the future we would appreciate it if pictures of women were included as well as those of men.”
