SOUTH PARIS — Dorothy E. Newell, 94, of South Paris, died Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Maine Veterans Home.
She was born in Auburn on April 6, 1919, the daughter of Arthur L. and Bessie Harris Beattie. She attended school at the one-room schoolhouse in Poland and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1937. She married Harrington Newell on Dec. 25, 1940.
She was the personal secretary to the Auburn city manager and later office manager for Farm Credit Union in Auburn. She enjoyed reading, music, travel and her family.
She is survived by her sister, Pauline Thorpe of Brunswick; special nieces and nephews, Deborah Williams, Leslie Pulsifer and wife, Priscilla, Howard L. Winslow III, Gordon A. Winslow and Dean A. Winslow; Roscoe Staples, Jr., who was like a son to her; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband on Sept. 6; and her sisters, Marie Morrell and Helen Winslow.
