FARMINGTON — Marjorie Arlene Stinchfield Richard, 90, passed away unexpectedly at Franklin Memorial Hospital on Saturday, Sept. 28.

She was born on Sept. 6, 1923, in Phillips, the daughter of Milton Sr. and Eva Stinchfield. Margie graduated from Phillips High School and Bangor Business College (now Husson College). Her accounting degree and strong work ethic kept her employed right up until two days before her death.

Over the years, she worked in the office at Forster Mfg. as a secretary to Dr. Hoch, and as the town manager of Phillips. For the past 38 years, she worked as the bookkeeper for Ron’s Texaco in Phillips.

Margie and her husband, Rupert Potter Sr., purchased the farm that she cherished on Mile Square in 1950. She raised black Angus cattle and sheep, which she and her son, Rocky, proudly showed at the fairs in Maine for many years. Rupert died in August 1964 and Margie continued to care for the farm animals and land that were so dear to her.

In 1969, she married Mortimer Richard, and together they shared many happy times. He died on Sept. 11, 2008.

Anyone who ever met Margie knows what a special lady she was and her positive outlook was truly inspirational. She was quick to lend a helping hand whenever possible, always putting her needs last. She will be missed by all who knew her and her absence leaves a big hole in the hearts of her family.

She is survived by her son, Rupert “Rocky” Potter Jr. and wife and her best friend, Joyce, of Avon; her grandson, whom she loved dearly, Rusty Potter and his companion who held a special place in her heart, Karla Dalesandro, of Phillips; her great-granddaughter, whom she cherished and missed seeing and building memories with the past few years, Jocelynn Potter of Farmington; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husbands; her brothers, Milton Jr. and Richard Stinchfield; and her nephew, Stan Stinchfield.

The family would like to thank Janie Thorndike, Conley Gould, the staff at Franklin Memorial Hospital, particularly Dr. Cordner and Beth Giberson in ICU, for the wonderful care that Margie received.
