Walk to End Alzheimer’s

PARIS — South Paris area residents will unite in a movement to reclaim the future for millions at the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Oxford Hill Comprehensive High School.

Registration and check in is at 8 a.m. with the opening ceremony and start of the walk at 9.

Funds raised will provide care, support and research efforts for those impacted by Alzheimer’s. Walk to End Alzheimer’s participants will be able to learn more about Alzheimer’s disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical trial enrollment and support programs and services. Each walker will also join in a meaningful tribute ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

First Universalist rummage sale

PARIS — A rummage sale will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 5, at the First Universalist Church, 36 Pine St.

A bag sale will take place from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Cost is $1 per large plastic bag.

Supper dance, Jones Band

LOCKE MILLS — A supper dance will be held from 9 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the American Legion Hall. Doors open at 4.

Music will be provided by the Jones Band. The menu will be a harvest supper.

Supper is $8; Supper/dance, $10; child $3.50.

1938 hurricane will be topic

WATERFORD —  At the Oct. 10 meeting, Waterford Historical Society members will share recollections, photographs and the history of the 1938 hurricane, one of the most destructive and powerful storms ever to strike New England.

What had been considered a tropical storm until this time hit Long Island and New England with very little warning, caused flooding, fires and the destruction of more than 500 lives and 8000 homes.

Waterford was at the edge of the storm and the damage to its timber and the forestry industry was immense and continued for many years.

The meeting will be at the Wilkins House, next to the Congregational Church in Waterford Flat, at 7 p.m. There will be potluck refreshments.

Senior Citizen Fall Frolick

RUMFORD — Oxford County Sheriff’s Office Senior Citizen Fall Frolick will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Rumford Eagles Club.

The event is free. There will be cider, coffee and doughnuts, lunch and dessert, door prizes, musical entertainment and nickel bingo.

Foster-Carroll craft fair Oct. 12

PARIS — The Foster-Carroll American Legion Auxiliary Unit 72 will hold its annual craft fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at 12 Church St.

Honey Bee Club workshop Oct. 12

PARIS — Oxford Hills Honey Bee Club’s workshop will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Oxford County Extension Center, 9 Olson Road.

The topic will be preparing bees for winter by checking for honey supply and wrapping hives. The public is welcome.

WATERFORD — Pulpit Rock Trail Blazah’s ATV Club of Waterford and  X-Tra Mile ATV Club of South Paris will hold a poker run followed by a cookout and then music by the Road Kingz on Saturday, Oct. 12.
