NORWAY — Cheerleaders, marching bands, sports teams and elaborate floats will take to the streets to celebrate Viking pride Saturday afternoon during the annual Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School homecoming parade.

This is the second year the parade will travel through downtown Norway and police Chief Robert Federico wants to make sure people are aware of road closures and possible travel delays.

The parade will begin at Whitman and Main Street, and proceed down Main Street, through the stoplights at Alpine, Main and Fair streets at the Norway-South Paris line, then take a left on Charles Street, ending in a celebration at Gouin Field.

Lineup for the parade will start at 1 p.m. along Maple, Crescent and Whitman Streets in Norway and marchers should be at Gouin Field by 2:30 p.m. The Oxford Hills varsity football team will take on Portland High School there at 3 p.m. 

Roads closed to traffic while the parade winds its way through town include Maple and Crescent streets from Pleasant and Whitman streets, Whitman Street from Main to Summer streets, Pearl Street from Whitman and Deering streets and Summer Street from Whitman and Deering streets.

Main Street will be closed to traffic from the time the parade starts until its anticipated conclusion at 2:30 p.m.

Federico and the Norway Police Department are urging motorists to be cautious of the anticipated crowds in the area, including lots of children.
