YARMOUTH – Seventy-four Maine artists from South Berwick to Dover-Foxcroft will exhibit 163 pieces of their work at the fifth annual Yarmouth Art Festival. The juried show, featuring painting, sculpture, photography, etching and digital media, will be held Oct. 16-19 at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, 396 Gilman Road.

The festival drew nearly 350 entries from artists across Maine. This year’s jurors were artist Suzanne Harden; Anne Haas, Bowdoin College art librarian; and Elizabeth Moss, owner of Elizabeth Moss Gallery in Falmouth.

“The overall quality of the work was again outstanding, and the jurors had a challenging task making their selections,” said Joe Michaud, festival co-chair. “We’re thrilled with the response – our largest number of entries ever – which illustrates the growth of the show and the vibrancy of the Maine arts community.”

The festival will be held inside St. Bart’s, a bright, post-and-beam space that will be converted into an art gallery. The show will run Wednesday, Oct. 16, through Friday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

An artists’ reception, including music and refreshments, will be held Thursday from 5:30-8 p.m. Admission will be free for both the festival and the reception, with donations accepted. All artwork is for sale.

The Yarmouth Art Festival was created in 2009 as a new venue exclusively for Maine artists. All proceeds from entry fees and sales commissions help support St. Bart’s community service programs, such as the Yarmouth Community Food Pantry and St. Elizabeth’s Essentials Pantry in Portland.

The 2012 festival drew more than 300 entries, with 165 pieces from 75 artists selected for display. A total of 47 pieces were sold at prices ranging from $60 to $800.
