LISBON FALLS — Civil War historian and living-history performer Charles W. Plummer will speak on “The Long Road from Gettysburg to Appomattox” at the Oct. 9 meeting of the Lisbon Historical Society.

At his most recent presentation for the group, Plummer detailed the contributions of units from Maine at the battle of Gettysburg. By popular request, he will continue with the final chapters of that history.

Appearing as Union Civil War general Joshua L. Chamberlain in the twilight years of his life, Plummer will present an overview of the battles that Maine’s volunteers participated in after the battle of Gettysburg through to the war’s end with the surrender of Gen. Robert E. Lee’s army on April 9, 1865, at Appomattox, Va.

He will conclude his presentation with a reading of the speech that Chamberlain gave at the dedication of the Maine monuments at Gettysburg on Oct. 3, 1889, accompanied by photos of those monuments in the form of overhead transparencies.

The Lisbon Historical Society is at the MTM Center on School Street. Entrance and parking are at the rear of the building. Doors open at 6:30 and the meeting begins at 7 p.m.
