WESTBROOK (AP) — The parents of a 2-year-old Westbrook girl who was found dead in her crib say police have told them that their daughter had lethal levels of methadone in her system.
Madelyn Negron was found unresponsive at her parents’ apartment on Aug. 5.
The parents, Jessica Joy and Raul Negron, told the Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/19YIzBQ ) they both take methadone for opiate addiction.
While Joy gets hers from a clinic, Negron says he’s allowed to keep his at home.
He said he keeps his methadone locked up, and denied leaving it out where the girl could reach it. He also denied giving the girl methadone to stop her from crying, as police suggested.
Police said the case is still under investigation, and refused to comment on Negron’s account.
