SOUTH HIRAM — Brett Beauchesne rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries Saturday afternoon, leading Dirigo to a 40-8 Western Class D football victory over Sacopee Valley.
Beauchesne’s scores covered 1 yard in the first quarter and 51 yards in the second period. Tyler Frost and Heath Hersom also had touchdown runs in the first half, and Kaine Hutchins caught a 30-yard TD pass from Riley Robinson to give the Cougars (3-2) a 34-0 halftime edge.
Gavin Hebert connected with Clay Swett for an 8-yard TD in the third quarter to complete the Dirigo scoring.
Eric Schroeder’s 4-yard run and a Zack Barrows two-point conversion supplied the offense for the Hawks (0-5) in the fourth quarter.
Frost and Zach Demars led the Dirigo defense with interceptions. Jack Brown joined Frost as a top tackler.
Joe Casey (9 carries, 54 yards) and Frost (10 for 53) bolstered the Cougars’ ground attack.
Winthrop/Monmouth 42, Telstar 6
BETHEL — Jake Weeks rushed for three touchdowns, all in the first half Saturday, and undefeated Winthrop/Monmouth coasted home to a 42-6 Western Class D football win over Telstar.
Weeks dialed long-distance on all three runs, reaching the end zone from 45, 50 and 30 yards.
Quarterback Jared Hanson had a 2-yard TD rush and later found Drew Stratton through the air for a 45-yard score.
D.J. McHugh tacked on a 3-yard TD run for the Ramblers (5-0). Telstar dropped to 0-5.
Cheverus 48, Edward Little 0
PORTLAND — Cody O’Brien and Joe Fitzpatrick rushed for early touchdowns and sent undefeated Cheverus on its way to a 48-0 Eastern Class A football rout of Edward Little at Boulos Stadium.
Two first-half fumble recoveries gave EL (1-4) life, but the Red Eddies couldn’t deliver a first down in the opening quarter and fell into the hole.
Cheverus returned an interception for a touchdown and a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Sophomore Matt Verrill came off the bench and gave the Eddies life with pass completions to Ian Mileikis and Drew Lashua. The Stags picked off another pass to halt that drive, however, and eventually upped their advantage to 35-0 at the half. They also scored on the first play from scrimmage in the third quarter.
