AUBURN — Lucien D. Girouard, 88, of Lewiston, born in Coaticook, Quebec, on May 28, 1925, the son of Evangelist and Mary (Bergeron) Girouard, died Sunday, Oct. 6, as result of complications of pneumonia, with his family by his side.

As a young boy, his family moved to Berlin, N.H., where he received his education. In 1940, he came to Lewiston to find work and worked at the Bates Mill, until he was hired by the Lewiston School Department in maintenance, retiring from Martel School in 1986, after 23 years. He was highly respected and loved by the teachers and children. He was a hardworking man who kept a positive attitude. Lucien was a generous person who always helped someone in need, being a relative, friend or neighbor.

In his earlier years, Lucien played drums for the Jacques Cartier Snow Shoe Club Drum and Bugle Corps. He was later a founder of Le Renard Snow Shoe Club. He was a devoted Catholic, and belonged to Holy Cross Church and the Seniors Club. He built his own home 60 years ago, and loved watching the Boston Bruins and wrestling.

He enjoyed going fishing and hunting with his sons. He and Ida loved to go camping and especially loved going to the Fryeburg Fair in their motor home. They also spent 15 winters at Ranch Mobile Park in Clearwater, Fla.

Lucien was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all who happened to cross his path, be it family, neighbors or friends.
