BELFAST — Police charged a Monroe man with operating under the influence Saturday morning after he allegedly drove while intoxicated to the Belfast Fire Department to ask where the county jail was located so he could bail out a friend.
Timothy Moody, 22, had first come to the notice of police late Friday night when officers watching him drive suspected he might be impaired, according to Chief Mike McFadden of the Belfast Police Department. But when officers gave him field sobriety and breathalyzer tests, the results were inconclusive, according to the chief.
“The reason for his impairment was not related to alcohol,” he said Monday. “So Mr. Moody was given a ride home and his vehicle was parked for the night.”
Police did, however, arrest one of his passengers, Amy Cunningham, no age or town available, and charge her with violation of conditions of release.
At about 8 a.m. Saturday morning, a Belfast police officer was at the Main Street fire department when Moody drove in to ask for the location of the jail.
“We brought him in for tests and this time he failed,” McFadden said.
Moody was issued a criminal summons for operating under the influence. His vehicle was towed and impounded, according to police.
