What has Mayor Jonathan Labonte done during the past two years that you agree with? What has he done that you disagree with?

I disagree with the non-involvement stance when it comes to city departments.

What has the city council done during the past two years that you agree with? What have they done that you disagree with?

I disagree with the non-involvement stance when it comes to city departments. It is the councils duty to represent the citizens of Auburn, and part of that representation means that the council has to know what is going on behind the scenes to make sure the taxpayers are getting the best services possible provided in a fiscally responsible manner.

What has the city manager and the city staff done during the past two years that you agree with? What have they done that you disagree with?

The manager is a product of the council. The council needs to set the direction of the city and then let the manager manage.

What has the school committee done during the past two years that you agree with? What have they done that you disagree with?

The only issue I have with the school committee is that it appears as though they do not know who they answer to. They answer to the taxpayers, not the superintendent. The superintendent answer to the school committee, and the committee in turn, answers to the taxpayers.

What is your solution for Auburn’s high school?

I do not have a solution, and a solution is not going to come from a committee of hand picked few. We are going to need full community involvement to come up with something, and that something cannot be to put the entire burden on property owners.

Any last words?

At this time, I am against consolidating the two cities. There are so many unknowns that will be quite costly to address. Consolidating the two cities entail far more than the stroke of a pen. Before any ballot question on the consolidation goes before the voters, they need to be fully informed of the process, any hurdles and costs, both anticipated and unanticipated.

I also believe we need to look at all city departments. Restructure them as needed. Renegotiate union contracts as needed. With me, everything will be on the table. We need to scrutinize spending and develop a prudent spending policy that reflects the times that we are now enduring. If elected, I am not looking to lead; I am looking to represent the citizens of Auburn.
