Despite consolidating its corporate headquarters in New Jersey, TD Bank won’t be reducing its workforce in Maine nor close any Maine offices or branches, a spokesman said Tuesday.

The change affects only the dateline on news releases and the bank’s corporate profile, Public Relations Manager Gabriel Weissman said.

Maine will continue to be one of the bank’s three U.S. hubs, including New Jersey and South Carolina, where the bank’s call centers are located.

Banknorth, founded in 1852, was based in Portland. In 2004, the Canadian-based Toronto-Dominion Bank bought Banknorth. Four years later, the parent bank bought Commerce Bank, based in Cherry Hill, N.J.

Since then, the bank has continued its purchase of other banks farther down the eastern seaboard, including the Carolinas and Florida.

When Mike Pederson was announced as U.S. CEO in April, the bank said he would be based in New Jersey.

Meanwhile, Weissman said TD Bank continues to be Maine’s leading retail bank by deposits. The bank has 47 branches in Maine and more than 3,000 workers.

Regional corporate offices are located in Augusta, Bangor, Camden, Falmouth, Houlton, Kennebunk, Lewiston, Oxford, Presque Isle, Rockland, Rockport, Sanford, South Portland and Waterville.
