LEEDS — A day of forestry education for farms and small woodlot owners will be held from 8:30 a.m to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22.

The morning session will be held at the Leeds Town Hall, 8 Community Drive. After a brown bag lunch, participants will travel to the Kennebec Land Trust’s Curtis Homestead for an afternoon tour of the woodlot and discussion of management practices.

The registration fee is $3 per person or $2.50 each for two participants from the same entity. The registration fee will be collected at the workshop and will offset the cost of morning refreshments.

Workshop topics include: Goals For Your Woodlot, (including multiuse management, silvicultural concepts and working with foresters and loggers); State Regulations; Best Management Practices During and After Harvest to Prevent Erosion and Protect Water Quality; Developing and Maintaining Access Roads and NRCS Related Programs.

Speakers include Shane Duigan, district forester, Maine Forest Service; Keith Kanoti, water resources forester, Maine Forest Service; and Susan Gammon, executive director, Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District.

The event, the first in a series of agricultural workshops, is sponsored by the Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District, Maine Forest Service and Natural Resources Conservation Service.
